It seems like it is the same category...individual songs are nominated. And this past year the Dixie Chicks took both. Thanks for clarifying this for me.

The Artist, producer, and engineer and/or mixer receives the Record of the Year and the composer receives the award for Song of the Year.

Record of the year is The Best CD of the Whole year.
Song of the Year is The Best single

i believe the record of the year goes to the artist and song of the year to the writers and producer of the song. not really sure. but yeah it does sound the same.

Uhm, I think record refers to the whole album. Sometimes albums have the same tittle as one of the songs so it seems they're the same but really they're not.
