you could go home after school take a basketball and dribble it will doing something else. whatever else you are doing you should have to concentrate on that way you can't look at the basketball.then once you get the hang of that go outside and go up and down your driveway w/out looking at the ball.then you can start running while dribbling the ball. and if you mean you can't run fast just try to run up and down your street. make goals for yourself, saying i'll run half way down the street tokay and run the entire street tomorrow. or if you have a tredmill you can run on that. you can also go up to the basketball coach he or she will most likely help you and give some tips to help you. i am about 5'3 and this year i played a forward because i am not that good of a dribbler and i just don't feel comfortable being a point guard. so just because you are short doesn't mean that you have to pay a point guard maybe you could play a wing. hope this helps.
good luck:)

When I was younger I had the same mind set. I led my team in 3-point shooting every year, but my mid-range jumper was less accurate than my trey-ball, and my dribbling was sub-par. So for the first part of my high school career, I was a Bruce Bowen type player. Basically you need to improve your all around game, defense, dribbling, passing, and an often overlooked part of the game, rebounding. Just find somebody to shoot around with and then start doing drills like running up and down the court with your friend guarding forcing you to switch hands and keep your eyes down court. Also, to work on rebounding, launch up a shot that you know will miss and have both you and your friend crash the boards. To work on passing, get the technique down, just watch Steve Nash, for that, then work on different types of passes in different situations. For shooting, just keep practicing, make a couple hundred jumpers a day and you should be fine. Other than that, just practice everything else and you be fine.

Practice your dribbling every day. At 5'3", you have no choice but to play guard. Guards must know how to handle the ball. It is nice to be able to knock down stand-still shots, especially if you can do it from deep. But, you now must learn how to make those shots off the dribble. If defenders know you can shoot, they'll stay in your face, and not let you shoot open shots. Being able to dribble away from the defense to create space for yourself is a must for any guard.

Well, you wanna show effort. Make sure that at try outs that you try the hardest possible, and act like you enjoy what your doing. You wanna be fast, too. Good for defense, fast break lay-ups... Run. Run for long distances. You will gain endurance, so you will be able to last longer, throughout games & practices. Also, shoot free throws, and get them down pat. Free throws are very important. Work on an outside jump shot, too. Work on dribbling, with both hands. Have someone defend you, and dribble you best with your head up. You have to be able to see down court. Your welcome, Lexi(:

Go to a basketball camp and keep practicing the drills even after the camp is over. If you're looking for something you can do at your own house, Google "basketall drills" and then practice, practice, practice.

Well, don't try out for the point guard position. Practice dribbling (a lot) and maybe you can be a 2 guard if you shoot that well. Blindfold yourself and dribble. I saw a kid practice that way once.

Dribbleing is easy but dribbling without lookint at the ball is hard, just keep dribbling and look at the ball once in a while
