Spray on liners are permanent, but they hold up really well. They also prevent cargo from sliding around, unlike many bed liners.

Bed liners are cheap and relatively durable, but they will ruin the paint underneath them. So you can never take them out, unless you repaint the inside of your pickup box. I got rid of mine, and put in a spray-in liner instead of painting. Also many bed liners require screws to hold them in place. You are just asking for rust trouble when you screw in to the body.

If you spent the money on a brand new pickup, don't take the cheap way out. Get the spray in liner.

I had a plastic drop in liner in my 2001 Dodge all the way up until last year when I had a spray in liner installed. I wont mention the same things others in front of me have, but here are some issues that I have dealt with:

1. While drop in liners are cheaper and pretty durable, friction caused by the liner against your truck bed wears the paint down and could leave areas open for rust, I noticed this on my truck when I took the liner out (some places did have surface rust).

2. As far as moving stuff in and out, the drop in liner was easy because it was slick, but that can also be a con if you are not careful.

I would just use your truck for a while then get the spray in after you have used the bed. The big thing is it protects your truck bed from leaking and rusting out as well as over all protection.

Bed liners can get dirt and moisture between it and the real truck bed. They do however protect the bed and are easy to replace.
Spray in liners keep the nasty stuff away from the trucks real bed all the time. but almost impossible to remove.

I've heard from truck owners that the spray in beds are better.

there are a couple. First and foremost is the cost. The spray on bed liners are far more expensive and when you put them in, that is it. You can't exchange them, sell them, or put them on your next truck. The second is wear. The spray on bed liners are supposedly longer lasting, however, I've never "wore out" a ready fit one. Lastly, once a spray liner is on, you can't change your mind and take it out.

My personal opinion, the spray liner looks better but, if it gets scratched up then you have to get it re-sprayed. (If you are trying to keep it looking good...). This happened to my Uncle...he had his sprayed and then used the truck to move some appliances and it got a few big scratches...if you are just going for protection and don't care about looks, go for the regular plastic.

I have seen many of the drop in liners along the side of the road where they have simply blown out of the back of the truck. Have you ever tried to walk on a wet drop in liner, slicker-n-snot. I much prefer a sprayed in liner because they become part of the truck and give better traction when wet.

I know spray on is more expensive, but I've had both and love the spray on liner. It is definitly worth the money.

The drop in ones can cause the bed to rust as they accumulate moisture and water underneath them. Spray-in ones cost more and take longer to install but once you do it, then forget about it.
