Playing someone your own strength can be a lot of fun and playing someone stronger can be discouraging. But for a well considered game, you learn more facing a stronger opponent. Especially if they're willing to review it with you later.

I'm not a semi beginner, but I'd be willing to play sometime online. But I prefer other game servers specifically set up for playing go. Kiseido Go Server (first link) is for playing live games like Yahoo!, but you can also review games. In my experience there are also a lot more friendly players willing to help a beginner out. Dragon Go server is a turn-base site (like play by e-mail, but you enter the moves at the web site). It saves the games in sgf, which is the most common format here, so you can go over games later.

Feel free to contact me about possible times I might be on (I sometimes keep weird hours and have been horribly busy lately).
