I would question what kind of doctor you have. In general, a woman has an exam in the very beginning of pregnancy and then towards the end, the doctor has to examine you to see if you are dilated and usually a few exams are required during the last month.
After baby is born, they do another exam at the 6 week checkup.

I would question a doctor that does not do vag exams on a pg patient. With all 3 of my pg, he examined me when I first found out I was pg, then later during last month of pg. (He started a lot sooner w/3rd pg, because I was expecting twins.)
Doctors generally can tell near the end of pregnancy if a mother will be able to carry baby full term by a vag exam. They check to see if your uterus is enlongated or thinning out(meaning it's getting ready for baby's arrival) and they check to see if you are dialating. If you and your baby are healthy and never had problems, I would be thankful. Vag exams can sometimes detect problems early on.

No. And talk about feeling invaded. I've never had a VE myself, but I was told the first time it was to check my cervix. The second time they did a PAP, the third time they tested for group B strep. Then they started checking to see where my cervix was at and on and on and on and....
Nope, not planning on any more kids, I don't know what turned my off more the delivery or all that stir - up time.

I had one at 24 weeks as I was rushed up to the hospital because I was bleeding and the doctor wanted to see where it was coming from. And when I was 41 weeks I had several as I was being induced and then in labour to see how far I had dilated.

Well, they usually have to check you at about 36 weeks.
They try not to stick anything into you during your pregnancy unless it is very crucial.
Obviously they are giving you some sort of vag. exam when your legs are open and the baby is coming out.

I don't quite understand how you managed to not have at least one. Are you saying you've never had one in your life? Well, you should have one once a year, to check for STD's, STI's, infections, cancer, etc. etc. During pregnancy, I had one at my first appointment. And from 36 weeks on, once a week until I delivered. During labor, I had quite a few to check for dialation, etc.

Yeah I wouldn't trust your doctor with a dying calf!!!! First of all they have to do VE's to check on the baby and to see that you aren't prematurely dilated or anything. They check for signs of infection, Toximia and other things. Your doctor endangered your life and your babies. You should count your lucky stars your baby is healthy. mom to 3 here.
