Algebra is a branch of mathematics that deals mostly with providing solutions to linear and quadratic equations. It was first developed by a Farsi (Persian) mathematician (also astronomer, astrologer, geographer, etc.) named El Khawarizmi (though I am not sure what the correct spelling is).
It's not a complex math, very basic, with very basic rules to follow. If you are to be taking it soon, try to avoid listening what the society says about math: that it's really hard. By believing this (or saying i am not good in math) it will create a mental blockage before you even start to solve a problem. Instead, try to find some one who loves math to break it down to easy understanding. The key in Algebra (and math in general) is to learn how to observe a problem, not necessarily to be smart as most people say.
Good luck :)

Algebra is a form of math that is (in easy terms) substituting unknown information with letters. Albegra is quite simple (easy for me to say I know I am a math person) but you have to slow down and find a person that can explain it to you in a way you understand. I had an algerbra teacher that taught it in a way that made no sense, once I got a tutor that could explain it to me better I got really good at it, and have gone all the way through calculus in both High school and college. I now love math and my kids are learning it wihtout trouble.

However the trick is finding the person that can really help you learn it.
