I first heard the term when I was in my teens. It measn for some one to make a fool out of you, especially a husband being unfaithful in such a manner that every one knows about and are talking about it behind your back.

I first heard it in Shakespeare and it is when a woman makes a man look weak, usually by cheating on him.
