Go for it. If you go to NYC you can even buy convincing knock-offs from street vendors. They're a fraction of the cost and practical.

Canal street though often those are real stolen ones, any street on Chinatown...basically wherever. I, personally, don't like knockoffs because you can almost always tell they're fake. Plus, its a huge slap in the face to the brand. I'd just find a pretty purse that you like if you can't afford the expensive ones (as I can't...) or switch to Coach or Juicy which are cheaper than Louis. Michael Kors has some lovely ones too. But yeah enough about hating knockoffs.

Take a friend and go to Canal St. You will be approached by people with a card showing pictures of bags. Then they will take you to the place where the bags are. It's like a bit of cloak and dagger stuff cause the city has cracked down on conterfeit designer stuff. But please take someone with you do not go alone to buy a bag.

China Town. I got a Louis Vuitton (excuse the spelling)there for 45 bucks & IT LOOKS JUST LIKE THE REAL THING. It even has the serial #'s in the inside, and the tag. They also sell Coach, Baby Phat etc.
