I've noticed that some people here give others a thumbs down just because they dislike them, regardless of the content of their answers. For example, I posted a question a few days ago in which I asked how old the people here at Yahoo!Answers Politics were. One of the answerers just stated her age, and for some strange reason, she got a bunch of thumbs down! This so reminds me of grade school!

In theory:
Thumbs down = bad answer or non-answer
Thumbs up = Informative, useful

In reality :)
Thumbs up = I agree. It can also mean, I agree and don't plan an answering so I don't have to worry about your answer looking better than mine by having more "thumbs ups."

Thumbs down = You stupid moron; how *dare* you have a different view than me.

;)

I have noticed that there are some that come on about Al Gore's movie and call it a farce. They don't like him so they don't believe his message.

Let me say this...if in his presentation he is only half right I would be worried.

I am in my early 70's and I have lived in the biggest change in our society in history. An AM band radio, a phone with a party line if you could afford one and an occasional newspaper.

I can remember as a boy how good things were and now it has changed drastically for the worst.

I am not going to be around to see what conditions my grandchildren will be living in but I am concerned.

If anyone believes that we haven't compromised our air and water then I think they don't want the responsibility of caring or they just have their heads buried in the sand.

Someone went into a health chat room and thumbs-downed every single response yesterday. They were all good, serious and informative answers about a medical problem or something. It was totally uncalled for. Some people are just gerks.

Well, I get thumbs down just for giving a Historical precedence to an argument...not something far fetched like 9/11 was an inside job, but something with real historical backing..and it is all because I proved someone's argument wrong...sad, very sad...

yes, it's true... many will.. but it's no big deal... the thumbs have no value... but I for one only give thumbs down to those who personally insult others... other than that I either just don't score or give a thumbs up...

Absolutely. I got like six thumbs downs because I said I was a liberal and I loved my country.

Didn't know loving your country was something worth getting a thumbs down for. And these people call ME unpatriotic.

There are a lot of folks posting on this site who lack emotional maturity. Hence, they resort to pettiness. They need to learn to think for themselves.
