Not trying to sound cold hearted here but just what is Iraq in the sense of sacrifice to America, really, and, truly, compared to other batlles, wars, the U.S. has engaged in...

In Iraq, after four years, 3100+ Americans killed; In our great Civil War, after 4 years 400,000 american soldiers killed; WWI, after 1.5 years 100,000+ american soldiers dead; WWII, after 4 years, 400,000+ american soldiers dead; Korean war, after 3 years, 54,000+ dead, Vietnam War, after 13 +years, 54,000 dead.

In the U.S., each year, 40,000 plus americans are killed by violence, and, 40,000+ are killed in automobile accidents.

Is Iraq a war, a peace keeping mission, a military intervention, just what is Iraq? Do we think WAY to hard about Iraq?

We make Iraq way too important for what it is. But Bush had to do that. If he hadn't, he'd have to explain why he invaded Iraq when he should have been trying to bring the perpetrators of the 9/11 disaster to justice. The way it is now, most people are misdirected enough that they think he really IS trying to do that, through this war in Iraq. Even though he has already admitted that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.

The Civil War was fought over state's rights and slavery. It was a just cause, albeit a particularly bloody one. WWII was fought to oppose nazi aggression. Six million jews were massacred by fascist regimes.

Vietnam was a waste. We slaughtered two million Vietnamese, essentially for nothing.

Our Iraq war is pretty much like every other fiasco, debacle, or disaster that has occurred during this administration. It has proven to be an extremely profitable means of diverting public money into the private sector. No accounting. No oversight. Just shrink wrapped bales of cash for everyone with a close tie to the administration.

"Good job, Brownie! Here is a Medal of Freedom for you!"

Iraq started out as an intervention, now it is politically managed(they hope ) by the Democrats as a way to win a short term political goal(The white house) and have forgotten the war on terror(ist). If the insurgents are smart they will bide thier time until they see who wins in'08. The wars you mentioned except Vietnam were all "short" with clear objectives, as in taking and holding territory. As a military war it is now being inturrupted by politics, and in my opinion that aint no way to fight a war. Vietnam had areas of bombing that were off limits,Iraq has "shieks" who can't be detained. I could go on but I think you get where I stand. We can stop 'em there or stop 'em here.Tell your congress man/woman where you want to fight them cause their not just gonna go away!! Also my son served in Iraq from the invasion until 4-04, combat artillary. He believed in his country enough to join the army a week after 9/11,to quote him "to kill those rag heads that attacked my country". Evidently alot of young men and women still feel that way!

I see you too have been fed a morning of stats. On Face the Nation, after 4 years of GW swearing there was NO civil war and only war on terror, the new party line to tow is "We are buying the Iraqi government time to settle the violence."
Aren't you so thankful that Our continued role as World Police has removed that scary threat of communism?! Think of how safe we all are now!;p Let's not forget the all-mighty american dollar-349bil or 9b per mo, now GW wants 12b per mo so are grand total at the end of 07 will be 523+.
LOL

Most of the noise about the Iraq war is coming from those who are trying to make political hay from this whole thing. They are the ones who pulled the strings to keep the images from 9/11 from being shown on the establishment media, so that people wont remember who and what started this whole thing, and they are the ones who are trying to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory over there. I hope that when we pull our troops out with the job undone and finally lose one or more of our cities to an Iranian nuke delivered with love by one of the terrorist groups the liberals are trying to coddle, the people of the USA will hold these idiots responsible. I doubt it though, the public has a memory which can be measured in milliseconds. Just make sure you dont live in a target area.

Iraq is the hidden agenda for this administration

We could have stopped 9/11. We should have stopped it.

We stopped attacking Afganistan -- or shoudl I say made a puny attempt at a afganistan battle while we focused on IRAQ.
Why?

This is not a war, but merely a failed diplomatic policy to occupy a country.
We won the IRAQ conflict part II

Mission Accomplished!!!

But with General Petraes saying 2 weeks ago military action is not the solution to this.
We need diplomacy!!!!

Bush didnt even want to answer any questions after his speech today. Thats just sad!!!!

I do not think it is possible to give too much think time to an event in which our government is funding young Americans to get killed every day - without a clear motive.
The numbers may seem paltry to you, but would you like to be the person to say that to 3,100 mothers or wives, or children?

The point is, we were led there by an egomaniac with all the rhetoric necessary to stir up the masses for support. Add to that lies from the white house with regard to WHY we were going there in the first place, and you end up with four years and billions and billions of dollars spent to kill many thousands of people and for WHAT!

Well I assume you are writing this on your laptop on your way to volunteer to join your comrades in their playtime in the sandbox, and ALL of this for NOTHING but a LIE. And the ECONOMIC cost is horrendous in that there are a few vital national problems that MUST be solved for the USA to continue, that COULD have been solved with less than the $trillion we are now going to disappear into the Iraqi black hole. Down with Dictator Dumbya!!!

My granddaughter (in Afghanistan with the 82nd Airborne) and her husband (just returned from Afghanistan after a tour with the 10th Mountain) would tell you that the war is real -- whether in Iraq or Afghanistan. While the numbers that you cite make our current statistics pale -- numbers do not necessarily make a war, actions do. Thanks for the challenge.
