I heard that if, when taking apart your engine, if you lay your crankshaft somewhere flat, it will warp slighty, become unbalanced, so you're supposed to stand it up on it's end. Is this true?

I agree, if it os for months then you should suspend it but if you are removing it, replacing bearings and putting it back in then there is no issue, BUT just to be safe, hang 'er up

Yes it's true over LONG periods of time. Crankshafts are always supposed to be standing up. But for transportation, you can box them and cushion them in the horizontal position.

Yes. Actually, it should be hung up. Try using an old wire coat hanger to do it.

yes .should stand vertical.
