I think the phrase kettle, pot, pot kettle should be used here. I am Brit and a mum. American kids are certainly portrayed as rowdy, spoilt and don't speak well but there are an awful lot of British kids that fit that criteria too.
If people say our kids are any better than yours, dont believe 'em!

I used to be a child in America and I have children in America. I think that the language part depends on where you are from, but as far as being rowdy, Studies show that American children are very disrespectful towards adults and other people. The laws have changed about punishment and that creates conflict on how children should be raised.

Compared to English children, American children are well manered, constructive and much better educated.
I've never heard an English person say American children are rowdy; England has a huge problem with youth crime at the moment, it's easily the biggest in Europe and many other countries.
English adults are scared stiff of English children because not only are the police powerless to stop them but adults who try to defend themselves and their property against a group of bored and aggressive children, who decide it would be fun to smash their windows and threaten them, are punished quite severely.

Yeah well, the British kids are just as rowdy, even though they might deny it(think happy slapping and their over-binging alcohol). And I don't think American kids are all that bad.

Anyways, children being rowdy and acting "out of line" has been a universal occurrence since before the time of Socrates. Every few years, I hear some media report about how the children are getting worse and how it'd be the decay of all society, and I shake my head in amusement.

Personally, I think it's probably because the media tends to over-report and focus on reports about ill-natured kids, than on news about nice kids. So, your average population goes around thinking that kids from ____ are bad, ill-natured, rowdy, etc.

It is a lie. Yes many don't use proper English and are rowdy, but the atmosphere they grow up arond is a big factor in this. If they are raised by poor speaking English parents, then most likely the child will speak poor English. If the child is raised around rowdy parents then the child will most likely be rowdy.

Most of American films are to be blamed for that. Even I used to carry the same impression.
I feel American children are given more liberty to challenge the authority. 'Challenging authority' may be associated with 'rowdyness'. Also most states have laws that prevent parents and teachers from punishing children for their misbehaviour, without giving parents or teachers a chance to explain their position. But it also has its own advantages. Challenging the authority also helps in making major breakthroughs. It requires lot of courage to challenge the authority.
As for English, I find American English more easier to grasp and comprehend as compared to British English. I take longer time to read and comprehend novels written by British authors. In India, English language was introduced by British, but Indians are more familiar with American slang and phrases than British.
In India, both, American and British children, are seen to be rowdy. But personally, I feel children everywhere are just the same!

As a teacher I deal with them on an almost daily basis. Most of them are nice, respectful, polite, and well-mannered. However, I am in a small town in the Midwest. I do see some that are rude, spoiled, and just plain worthless. So much depends upon the individual and the situation. When there have been big disasters (Katrina, Rita, the Tsunami), my students wanted to know what they could do to help. In fact a lot of mine want to do things to make life better for others.

American children are no different than those in other societies. If they are too rowdy, or use improper grammer, this is the parents fault.

Maybe the real question is, What do you think of American parents?

How can I know? I have met children from all countries and cultures and find most are great as long as they have clear boundaries. The American children I met on holiday were super, polite and well mannered. Mind you perhaps it was because I asked them to mind their manners whilst near me.
I tend to to this to all children if I feel they over step my mark. Usually its the parents who I have problems with when they react with " my little treasure never does any wrong"
Children from the dark ages were despaired of by adults, think back to the Elizabethan times with fops and dandies, then came teddy boys, punks, etc.
I`m sure you are quiet and polite when the need arises.

Some children have no guidelines to follow.Parents always talk about discipline but never follow through. And I have seen families with well behaved children. And try my best to let the parents and children know I really think it's great to see.I don't know what is going on in schools today because of improper English.Spelling isn't even stressed like it used to be.
