My daughter is turning 6 this year, however her birthday is the Saturday of Easter weekend. My wife and I are hesistant to schedule her at that time due to the conflict with the holiday. Are we making too much out of this? Or is it better to schedule for another weekend? Keep in mind, explaining to a 6 year old why people can't come to your birthday party won't be easy for her to understand. Thanks!

I would go ahead and schedule it. I have two cousins whose birthdays fall on or very close to Easter. Our grandmother always made a big deal of it. In fact I always thought they were lucky because then the whole family was usually there to celebrate with them. I really don't see a problem with it. If someone has an issue, just don't invite them.

My friend had her daughter's birthday party on Super Bowl weekend. Not a lot of people showed. My husband and I did make an appearance but left after only an hour. People have plans. If you decide to have it on that weekend don't be surprised if people don't show. Also a lot of people have church functions and things of a religious nature going on at that time. I say reschedule it for the weekend after, but make sure you have a little cake and get her a couple of small presents so she doesn't think you forgot. Or you could have an Easter themed party, complete with an egg hunt and prizes. People would probably show up for that. Good luck to you.

Easter is on Sunday not Saturday. Only selfish people wouldn't attend a child's birthday party the Saturday before. It would only be excusable if they were planning on being out of town for the weekend to visit relatives.

I probably would attend the party but might not give as good as a gift as I would of if it had been a different weekend, since this same weekend I made a lot of shopping on my kids easter clothes, easter eggs, gifts, candy, etc.

Do an easter egg hunt party. limit the party to 3 hrs. People can certainly schedule that unless they are out of town.

I think six is old enough to understand why the party needs to be moved to another date. Hold the party the weekend before or after, but don't let her have a party with a bunch of no-shows. It will break her heart regardless of how good the excuse.

Yes, you are making too much out of it. Unless you know of key attendees who won't be able to attend, why move it?
