I own a 1997 Nissan maxima and the lights on the dashboard went out. What could the problem be? The rear break light does not work either. Please help.

First thing is check your fuses. Typically the brake light fuse and the dashboard fuse are different fuses, but there maybe a relationship. Check the fuse panel to be sure. (The fuse panel is typically located on the driver side by the lower kick panel)

Next spell correctly. It's brake light, not break light.

Check the fuse box for the dash light problem. It's probably a bulb for the brake light problem. Those are easily fixed. You can get a ticket for having a brake light out so replace that right away.

Take it to a garage or your local Nissan dealer.

Could just be a blown bulb.

You have a broken ground wire, somewhere.

start by the battery negative cable and check the engine to chasis ground wire.
