I live in the south, Alabama to be exact. I have always heard that "Blackberry Winter" is the last cold snap we have before warm weather is here for good. When is blackberry winter? What month does it come in? Is it in April, or maybe May?

I also live in the south, Alabama. Easter weather & blackberry winter is the last cold snaps.
The weather has to turn cool to set the buds on the blackberry vines. And when the blackberries are in full bloom then we will have blackberry winter for a few days.

It is about April or the first of may. So just lower your thermostat and don't grt rid of the covers on the bed. This is for those that has never heard of blackberry winter.

Because Gadsden is further north, it makes sense to think of blackberry winter as usually occurring early-to-mid-May in north AL. I grew up in Bham but have spent a lot of time in Etowah county, where many of my relatives live. I don't know how common knowledge about it is now, but I've known about it since I was a child in the 50's-60's. In my mind, it's associated with the brief cold snap that comes as blackberries bloom.

Blackberry winter is usually the second week in April, temps in the south (Ga.) drop to freezing for three days and nights, about two or three hours a night, cover up young vegetation. Happy Spring.
