this is a tough question but I think I know what you are asking.
I saw the bird flying but I did not see the bird in the road.
Using a saw to cut wood is dangerous if you do not use goggles to see clearly what you are doing.

see is present tense...you are doing something.
saw is past tense I believe...you already did what you are describing.

"I will see you later", said Mary.
" I saw Johnny yesterday", said my sister.
"I used a saw to cut the wood for the fence", said my dad.
Sandra said, " I saw Bianca's new car last night."
You wouldn't say "I see Bianca's new car" unless you actually mean it is in your driveway and you see it.

I drive I drove I have driven
I eat I ate I have eaten
see saw have seen
feed fed have fed
wash washed have washed
clean cleaned have cleaned
swim swam have swam
talk talked have talked
speak spoken have spoken
sleep slept have slept
Most words will follow this pattern. If you aren't sure find a website with grammar rules. Usually looking for teacher or kid pages for homework help websites will be easier to understand than university or college webpages.

Well, that would be kind of hard, to say:
I saw this ,but i didn't, because i wasn't really looking.
But i know it happened, because i was there So i saw this person do that, but i didn't see how it happened.
