Hey there,

If it's just you and your Dad playing then that's a hard question to answer; it's similar to the book versus movie concept. Most people prefer a movie because it's more immediate and "less work" than reading. Now, instead of a movie it's WoW. Even though I have yet to play it (I am far too afraid of what will happen if and when I get hooked and I know I will!) the immediacy for a single player as well as all the sensory information; if someone is not a big fan of using their imagination D&D can be a real snore.

When I use to GM, years ago, I'd allow the players to pass notes to me in private; it allows players to do things without letting the other party members know. Also, I'd give bonus experience points or other incentives to keep players playing in character. You can also introduce NPC charactes to the mix and have them stir up a lot of conflict. Ya, it may really tick off the players, some may get angry with you (depending on what you do) but from your point of view, it can be a lot of fun! Last thing would be ask your Dad what he'd like to see added, changed, etc. to make him more interested in the game. For some, using figurines and the D&D tiles help add a visual dimension.

Good luck! Let me know if something works!

Cheers.

Sounds like he isn't really interested, I'm sorry to say. I doubt it is your fault. You need to find some other people to play with. Check for gaming or comic book shops in your area. There are also a number of online communities that can be fun. If you like to DM you will always be welcome!
Try rpg.net for online gaming or to possibly find a group in your area. You an also look at Amtgard.com if you are interested in live action--they are a lot of fun. Getting a few more people involved will help. Good luck.

well, if someone chooses to play two games at once, his character would be slipping and losing hit points
