I have a Compaq Presario 1245 laptop. I want to make it faster. What would most likely help me achieve that, more RAM, or a faster processor? Or do I need both? Are processors interchangeable, for example can I take a processor from a Gateway Solo 1450, and use it on mine if it fits??

Both will help speed in XP and Vista. Processors are interchangeable as long it is with a like processor. P4 with P4, basically the pinout has to be the same. If it plugs in it should work. I have swapped out P4 Celerons, with P4's and P4 Centrino's with no problem. Check what processor you have and find a like item. P4's have taken a real dive on price and can be picked at a reasonable cost now. I hope this helps, and ignore the free pc above, nothing is free.
