Yes, just the same as you can be brainwashed to break good habits.

The term 'brainwashing' typically describes re-programming of sorts - and typically that re-programming is contrary to the 'victim's' usually beliefs or morals or whatnot - so it has a rather bad connotation and is usually used in a negative sense.

However, I think you're wondering more about hypnotism and if it may be used to break a bad habit.

I believe that it does work for some people and post hypnotic suggestions can likely influence whether or not someone is likely to continue a bad habit or not. I've never tried it but a great recent example of someone who has is Ellen Degeneres who spoke openly on her show about using hypnosis to quit smoking.

A habit is something that is learned, Not brainwashing, You must unlearn, the bad habit you wish to rid yourself of, just as you learned to develop a bad habit, you can unlearn it. it takes some practice, try replacing it with a good habit.

I think they actually call it hypnosis therapy, but the suggestion given to you under hypnosis is such that you believe the habit is so bad for you--you won't ever want to do it again & this is supposed to help you quit. Are you the type of person who is easily given to suggestions or are you strong willed? It may or may not work w/out the help of support of friends , family or a "group" to talk with too.

I don't consider it brainwashing but call it the power of positive thinking. Yes you can change bad habits through hypnosis and positive affirmations.

For example: walking around and saying "Oh my god" in a negative tone with your shoulders hunched over "it is Friday the 13th and I am going to have such a horrible day"....will definitely cause you to have horrible days.

What we think, how we speak and our body language causes the subconscious to take over creating havoc in our lives. Just by changing our words to positive words and positive tones and body language we will begin to notice wonderful changes in our daily habits.

For example: "Woo-hoo" jumping up and down and speaking in a happy tone " it is Friday the 13th and I am going to get lucky today!".
