You might have to download the driver for it. On my Compaq Presario 1245, the touchpad isnt even recognized by the system, but it is fully function and works even when I plug an external mouse in. But with the driver installed, there is a control center for it under mouse properties, and there is a setting for disabling it while a mouse is plugged in. Also, you can set it to where your wrists wont make it do anything, cause it can tell the difference between a pointed touch of a finger, and broad hand contact. Im not sure what kind of touchpad you have, hopefully it is listed somewhere in your system info, or maybe you can find out on the web. If not, look up Synaptics Touchpad driver on the web, thats what mine is...maybe it'll work on yours.

If it's a Toshiba, press FN, keep it in, then press F9. To turn the touchpad back on, do the same thing.
