I am waiting for the opportunity to be promoted at my job. I have been with the company for eight years and I must say that I am totally ready to be promoted. My boss has been telling me that I am set up to go to the internal interviews for sometime now but he doesnt have a date? Do you think this is BS and he is just stringing me along? He told me and another employee that the interviews will be in April or May. But I am just itching to know if he is telling the truth. Should I go above him and email his boss and see what he says about that, or would that be overstepping?

Yes, that would be overstepping, wait until April or May to see if the interviews take place, your boss may have other reasons, he may not want to lose you if you're a great worker. You might want to just ask him what's going on and why you haven't been to the internal interviews yet.

Its nice to know that you think you are ready for a promotion. Perhaps your boss does not think so and doesn't have the stomach to be boss. If you think your in a good position to move up then I would not step on any toes. You must think about results if you go beyond and find out you should have not. Your chances in the future will be null and void. Businees is based on trust but it must go both ways. I would wait and see what happens and if someone moves into the position you are looking for. If that happens then I would approach your boss and ask for an explanation, then look for a new job

Don't do it. Your boss will find out eventually.

Going around one's boss indicates to your boss that you don't think that he's doing a good enough job and also, perhaps, that you are trying to make him look bad to his boss.

Besides, your boss may not be the true hold-up. Maybe he's itching for you to be promoted as well and it's his boss (or his boss' boss) who is saying no.

I think you would be better off talking to your current boss and trying to tie him down with a date that you will be moved up the ladder. If you back door him, he will likely not be real happy about it and will not want to push for you. He may also just be saying that to keep you happy so I would try to get him to commit to a date or time.

You have to be careful as to not upset your boss. I would do something like this..."hi, I was told by my supervisor/manager that the interviews will be on april/may, was wondering if you have a an approx date, thanks"
