the hiccups could be because she has extra air in her tummy. but some newborns just hiccup alot. As far as the burping, how are you trying to burp her? are you holding her close to your shoulder and patting her back... that is the traditional way.... but if you are having trouble with that, you can try holding her a different way... for example... you can try laying her face down over the length of your lower arm with her head at your elbow and (this is gonna sound kinda gross, but it worked for my kids) the palm of your hand holding her diaper area... there is quite a bit more angle there, but shes not completely flat.. or you could place her face down across your laps... in either case, try rubbing her back as well as patting it... this helps to get the burp out quicker... try not to let her sleep before she burps because this can cause alot of gas and belly aches... Good luck.

Newborns fall asleep during and after their feeds, yes it is normal!
You can still burp her while she is sleeping. Sit her on your lap and keep her head supported and gently massage and pat her back or put her up on your shoulder and try it that way.
Hiccups are normal. Their digestive tracts are immature, it gets better over time!

my daughter did the same thing when she was a newborn. this is how we knew she had a burp. she would always start to fall asleep. we would put her on our shoulder and burp her, and then she would wake up and drink again until the next burp came. i agree with you, it was a very cute thing.

Babies sleep a lot when they are little especially if they are preemie. And they also hiccup and sneeze a lot too. All of this is normal and as they get older the sneezing, hiccups, and sleep happen less often.

Babies hiccup in the womb so that is perfectly normal. Just keep her semi-upright for about 10 minutes after she eats and she will burp if she needs to even if she is asleep.
Patting my son's back just made him tense so I would just keep him upright and he would burp.
Also if she is sleeping she isn't having gas pain, she may not have any gas.

Try either gently rubbing a couple of fingers up her back a few times then lightly tap. If that doesn't work, lay her face down on you're lap, lightly bounce you're legs up and down, while lightly taping her back with a couple of you're finger's. Hope it works!!
