I am graduating soon from university in the States. I want to teach English or Spanish in Beijing. I am just wondering if I should find the job when I am in China or I should begin to look for it now. Can someone give me more detail about what to expect from this experience?

Many thanx!

Hi, you can do in both way. Send your resume to some universities now. Or you can go to Beijing first. Now there are so many international schools in Beijing, I think it is very easy for you to find a teaching job. Well, you may get more information about Beijing first.

A lot of my friends easily applied to and found jobs doing this before they left the states-English teachers are in very high demand over there, and if you get a job before you go, you won't have to spend time and money once you get there looking for one-search on Google for teaching jobs china japan etc.

My suggestion would be that you either apply directly with the BJ universities (those famous ones) or go with a reliable organizations. Middle persons can be a risk. Search in china http://www.chinabloglist.org/ to get more first -hand experiences.

Your best bet would be to go visit eslcafe.com ... This site deals with ALL ESL/EFL questions you might have. You'll notice they have job boards, job forums where you can ask questions of other overseas teachers who are already in China, lesson plans and in general it is one of the best sites around.
