My dad recently had to separate his tiger barb (he had 4 others but this one killed them) because it started nipping at the albino mollies. So now it is my room which is the coldest room in the house and the tank is a 5 gallon tank but no heater and the water is about 50-55 degrees and I want to know if it will survive in those temps I have the light semi uncovered to try and heat the water some for now.

That is too cool for it to do well long term. It can handle the temperature for a few days, but not long. Small heaters are available at most pet shops that will fit your 5 gallon just fine.

I agree with mm. Your barb is a cold water fish, however 50 is pushing the limits. 55 if it can remain there he will be fine. Can you move the 5 gallon to another room to keep the temperature up? Leave the light uncovered this will add heat and help maintain the temperature above 50.

He should be fine for a while.

The Tiger Barbs prefer at least 68 degrees. It may or may not live. The reason the Barbs beat up on each other and then the remaining fish is because they should be grouped with a minimum of 5 other barbs. Hope this helps.

tiger barbs prefer tropical to sub-tropical, but 50 is too cold.
can you not buy a 25w/50w heater for your 5 gallon tank?

barbs need to be kept in groups of 6+ to spread this nipping and aggression.
