She says she stopped and won't do it anymore.why should she tell her doctor. Wouldn't everything be ok since she stopped?

the doctor needs to know so he/she knows what to look for. It's not going to be the first time they hear it or the last.. that's why they are trained for it. If your friend cares anything for this baby, she will tell the doctor so they are aware and able to test for damage and be ready to deal with it instead of finding out at delivery and going whoops. Besides, if your friend never tells the doctor and it is evident at birth, he may be more suspicious and more like to report your friend to social services. Honesty upfront may circumvent the doctor feeling the need to intervene for the child's welfare.

(I hope you friend stays clean, even after the baby is born. If she's not going to, she should consider putting the baby up for adoption. My neighbor was a druggie and used right after her baby was born. They found him (3 weeks old) smothered on the bed. She fell asleep on top of him and was too drugged to notice)

She needs to be honest with her doctor. They can be on the lookout for any problems that may have occured due to the cocaine use. Its great that she stopped, but unfortunately, the damage could have already been done. Drug use in early pregnancy is the worst. Early in the pregnancy is when the baby is developing organs. She needs to tell. Best of luck.

The doctor needs to know. More than likely he already knows, a lot of OBGYNs have gone to drug testing as a policy (especially younger mothers) so that they know what is going on with the baby. How do they drug test? Well you have about 5 million things already that they draw blood for. Most make you consent to being tested for everything they want you tested for or they will not see you. I believe that in some states it is mandatory, just like the HIV/STD tests.

Yes she should tell her dr. The first eight week are the most important first weeks. All the organs and heart are formed at this time and it can still cause malformation of the fetus. If the dr. is told test can be given to look for damage to the fetus because moms drug use history is known.

This is the 2nd time I have answered the same question from you & I know this is not for your friend! People will admire you more for not making up the 'my friend' stories & asking honest questions.

If it was your friend you wouldn't be stressing about this so much.

they are telling you to let your doctor know becuase it is VERY important to keep your doctor updated on EVERYTHING that goes on in your pregnancy. she isnt going to get in trouble its just for her own reassurance.

Yes, please have her tell the dr. It's not about her...there's a child that could be affected.
