Find a certified document preparer. They are paralegals trained in DOCUMENT PREPARATION. They can not give you legal advice nor can they settle any dispute you and your husband may have, but if there is no diputed items, they do know how to prepare the necessary paperwork and walk you though the court system to finalize a divorce.

if you have lived in Georgia for 6 months and have no children and he is agreeable to a divorce then it's easy. Go to the courthouse (call first) and ask for "forms for a do-it-yourself divorce". They used to cost about $15 (here anyway) fill out the forms, pay the fee and start the process, serve him the papers thru the sheriff and wait for his response. If he doesn't respond in a certain specified amount of time then set your appointment before the judge and go for the appointment by yourself. Here at least you can get a divorce on your own if the husband doesn't respond and doesn't appear. Check the laws in your state to see if it's the same there. I used to do divorces for people here, it used to cost $400 the cheapest way, now probably is more as time has passed, but it's cheaper than an attorney, and it works. I'm ot sure if your state has "irreconcilable differences" as a way out. But if you two have been apart for a year (with no contact) the divorce will go thru very fast. Some states now have education wherein you need to go thru the course together prior to divorcing. Make sure you don't have that in Georgia. Good luck to you.

You don't need a lawyer. Just fill out the forms and file for divorce on what ever grounds feels right. If it's uncontested then he should have no problem accepting the summons and letting the process take its path.

Provided you meet residency requirements of your current state, you should be able to file there. Your county should have information available that will have the requirements for filing there. If you don't meet them, then you may have to file in the county your husband lives in. If you don't hire an attorney, then you do have to file all the paperwork and then do all the legwork to make sure you husband is served with all the paperwork and court information properly. Good luck.

Doing it yourself sounds easy, but it's hard to find a judge who will hear the case. Getting a lawyer to do a non contested divorce should be fairly inexpensive.

In most states, you can file for divorce without using a lawyer.
You can usually get the forms on the internet..
Fill them out and take them down to the local county
clerk of court and file them...
In TX this will cost you about $175....
Of course you will need to do it in your GA county of residence.
