I avoid them, I have for years and years I can`t remember ever enjoying a party Ive been to even my own wedding reception. My fella is more or less the same too so all works out OK. We have been invited out 3-4 times this year so far and we hav`nt gone to any of them. some people though take it very personal, I don't understand why, when invited anywhere I always say we may go but I doubt it. Some we just say yes to because of the nagging, then we either cancel at the last minute or just don't turn up. I try and explain we don't like going to gatherings where lots of people will be drinking. There are valid reasons for this and most family and friends know why but still insist on trying to "persuade" us to go. Not all people are party animals maybe we are boring whatever it`s the way we are and that`s that. Why go out to feel uncomfortable, unsafe and have to get pie-eyed in order to feel OK in your surroundings. Hope Ive answered your query OK know I went on a bit and sorry for that....

I think I have a mild fear of social gatherings when I'm meeting a new group of people for the first time but i guess that's slightly normal.

I guess i just cope by forcing myself to go along or normally have someone with quite a strong personality come with me. That way it gives me time to blend and fit in slowly.

Anyways once i get there i allways have a blast and that anxious feeling soon goes!

Yes I do, I hate walking into a room full of strangers, for the most part I just don't go to them and make up some excuse, for the ones I really can't get out of I generally show my face for an hour then make an excuse to leave, I'm not a miserable or anti social person I just don't like been around people who drink because it usually starts a fight or argument and I just hate that.

Just try and keep a positive attitude. Many times that's all you need to BE positive. If you're self-conscious, think of it this way:
People aren't singling you out of the crowd....are you singling them out of the crowd? Not usually....and they are the same way. Lots of times, just being shy and self-conscious is singling you out more than anything else....
And you never seem to have as much fun when you're thinking of what people will think of you! Be yourself...have fun the way you like to have fun--don't be afraid! Besides, true friends are going to want to see the real you, not the the "well I'll do this to fit in" you! They may even be disappointed once they get to know you better if you weren't expressing who you really are!

Be yourself! And always strive for the best! :D

Yes, I have a bad phobia about all that.
I imagine the worst case scenario before a party (they call the cops/ they murder me/ etc.) and laugh about it. Then I go and talk to my most favorite/likely person there. Then I talk to my 2nd/ favorite. I have an answer in my head for the "how are you/what do you do" type questions.
