I have to design and code a program using Visual Basic for my VB class. It is completely open-ended so pretty much whatever I feel like doing. So I'm opening this up to you guys. Got any cool ideas?

How about a program that scrapes this Web site, searching for the number of times this question has been asked previously?

Seriously, just make a program that catalogs your MP3 collection. That's an exceedingly common and easy application that demonstrates your knowledge of forms, the file system and ADO.

Games! A platform jumper like Super Mario Bros. -- or my favorite, an old-school RPG like Dragon Warrior. Then there's the much simpler ones, like pong or asteroids, but they don't seem nearly as much fun.

I'm not familiar with VB, but I wrote this stuff in QBasic for goodness sake, so how hard could it be now? :) ...Anyway, there's nothing more addicting than writing something intended for play, trust me.

You can make a calculator, fairly easy and pretty much all math, otherwise you can use the random class to make dice or cards for blackjack or whatever.

You don't say anything about your level of knowledge or what you want to work with (databases, file handling, etc.) but there are various ways of doing a little trivia game that might be nice.

To all: Yes it's possible. But you'll have to write it.
