The thought counts, but not if it is out in left field.

A good friend of mine told me that a boyfriend of her bought her a fire extinguisher for Christmas one year. He had the thought, but no romance and no creativity.

Not listening and then depending upon just showing the thought will land you in more trouble. I was really hurt when my wife bought a pair of shoes for me and a pair of pants and after three years still could not get my sizes right. She had the thought, but she did not listen to me on the sizes. It made me feel like I was not very important to her.

While no one is perfect, depending upon a thought rather than actual knowledge and effort always shows through and always fails to impress.

Take care,
Troy

You're confusing two totally different things here. The saying "it's the thought that counts" is generally applied when someone has given you a gift. You should always listen properly to your other half, it makes your life a whole lot easier believe me!!!
