Lifestyle is a code word used by folks who believe that being gay is merely a choice. There is no such thing!
It''s not a choice, it's not a style, and being gay is an important but tiny part of having a life.

To me, it's just a word. I mean everyone has a "Lifestyle" The little old woman living across the street who talks to her cats has a lifestyle. The straight married couple with 2.5 kids have a lifestyle. Me, being a 23 year old student with a girlfriend and a fulltime job, i have a lifestyle. Everyones style of life differs (or at least it should). Some people use the word "Lifestyle" to sum it ALL up into one little box and fit the whole LGBT community inside of it....but it's impossible. We all live different lifestyles. Some are better than others, some are lavish, some are filled with violence & drugs, some are boring, some are out of the ordinary. It shouldnt be based solely on sexuality though. It should be all inclusive of everything that comes along with me and all that i do.

I think the "gay lifestyle" business originated back when all society knew about gays was the open shenanigans of the hedonistic nightclub types, the desperate druggies and one-night-standers, the swingers and prancers and in-your-face types, not the vast majority trying to quietly get through their lives without being outed, fired, beaten, jailed, psychoanalyzed, lobotomized, banished, evicted, or simply killed.
At the same time, homosexuality was dealt with then as a mental disorder, and in defense, the few spokespersons for gays blurted out that it wasn't a "disease," it was a "chosen lifestyle" (as in, "I meant to to do that!"), a tactical blunder, but who knew?
Of course there's no "gay lifestyle" other than being with someone of the same sex and enjoying the same benefits of society as everyone else.

I think what people mean from that is: dating other gay people, socializing with other gay people in gay-oriented places, being open about your sexuality and in general being openly gay. To heterosexuals, it is a type of lifestyle as being compared to living a "single" lifestyle. You know, the dating scene, clubbing, exchanging contact info with people.
I think if you're gay don't take it so seriously. You know how you like to live and if people pigeon-hole you just ignore them. Hope this helps.

Well I'm not gay. I'm bisexual. But you don't see me living the so called 'stereotype' you hear of bisexuals (e.g. multiple partners at the same time of both sexes). I just live a life with one partner monogamously. I do the same as all straight, gay people do. There is no "gay" lifestyle. I just see my lifestyle as a happy one in which I share with my partner.

I think by "gay lifestyle" the straights are referring to living openly as homosexuals, which is what they oppose. They don't care that we're gay, they only care that we are out of the closet.

I would assume they mean dating and having relationships with people of the same sex. I really don't understand either. I have a job and work a lot. In all honesty, I don't have a lot of time for a relationship. I have a life, it just so happens that a small part of that life is spent with someone of the same sex.
Believe me, it's a small part here lately.

This is a term that has a couple different meanings.
For some, it is a polite way to say that someone chose to be gay. (ya, ya, I know, it's not a choice, just trying to answer your question)
For others, it refers to homos who live in the homo part of town, and who only associate with other homos of the same sex as much as possible. Most of them are 20-something and single.

I understand what you mean entirely. Your lifestyle would probably be indistinguishable from any straight persons lifestyle were it not for the classification of your romantic relationships.
