I am starting up a home business, and would like to sell some of my handmade stuff downtown as a street vendor. (Someone who walks among the crowd selling, and has no booth.) Do I need to get a permit or license? Any info helpful.

It depends on your city's local ordinances and you'll have to check with your city's clerk office. If your city has its own website, the city clerk office will have at least a telephone number listed.

You may have to buy a permit to operate as a street merchant; and if you intend to go all the way with owning a knitting business, a business license might help you gain credibility.

In Santa Monica, CA, for example, street vendors selling wares along the beach path have to have buy a daily permit to be there whether or not they make any sales.

You are going to have to go to your town's City Hall and find that out. It varies by where you live!
