It is the time in March that the NCAA tournament is played in. March Madness is used because during this time a lot of people are obsessed with basketball, myself included.

College basketball tournaments most specifically the NCAA Tournament and the second fiddle NIT (National Invitation Tournament). In Michigan the boy's high school play off are also called March Madness. My teams are out of all three! Sniff.
