If someone is not in college or grad school, I would think he is an immature freeloader, lazy, or socially inept if he couldn't support himself and live on his own by the time he's 25.

I'm a single parent of 3 children that works and goes to college,,what's wrong with being responsible when a person reaches the age of 18? I'm not saying not to help out when they reach that age but I certainly am saying, work and go to college will make anyone appreciate what they do have. The parents have raised them,,it's time to do something themselves.

Really depends on the circumstances. I say if you are over the age of 18. Not in college. No job. You are not disabled in any way. If you have been there over 2 years without any of the above going on, it is definitely fishy.

Once you have graduated from college, you should be out on your own.

Of course, there's the perpetual student syndrome to deal with. For that, I would say 26 years of age and then out you go!

As for adults who return to live with Mommy & Daddy, that's wrong on so many levels. I can understand moving back home for 1-2 months to get back on your feet after a divorce or relationship termination, but nothing beyond that.

Depends on the circumstances...If a man or woman just went thru a divorce, if a parent just died and they are taking care of the other...several things are ok, but if they are single, parents are healthy and not in college or something like that I am gonna go with 25.

Depends on culture, its hard to generalize. In my family, it was expected that once you were finished school (whenever that was) you'd be paying rent. Why pay rent at home when you could move out? So people were generally gone by the time they finished school, if not earlier.

Some friends of mine who are from different communities, it might be more common for them to live at home longer - especially for the girls.

If you're in a community like that, and dating tradtional girls, it may not be an issue. If you're dating more 'integrated' girls, they will expect you to have your own place within say a year or so of graduation, I'd imagine.

That said, if there's an explanation, many women may not mind. They object strongest to a man with no interest in being on his own. If you're at home saving up for a house, or paying down student debts, or recovering from a divorce or whatever, its understandable to many women.

My main advice to anyone living at home is - pay yourself rent. By that I mean, make sure you are saving AT LEAST the equivalent of rent/food/utilities etc up to move out. If you are spending more then that, you are living above your means, and it will be very difficult for you to ever move out. If you 'pay yourself rent' you can pretty rapidly save up a nice starting point to moving out, and from a budget standpoint, you'll feel able to handle moving out.

My brother stays at home with our parents to support them financially, my mother is recovering from cancer and a hysterectomy and cannot work, so although he is 27 it benefits the family to have him living there, as it helps my father financially. He hopes to move out next year if my mother is strong enough to return to work. To me that seems like a pretty good reason to be at home.
