I'd like to make a distinction here - I'm talking about nudity - not sexual explicity. A friend of mine feels that a letting his children (5 and 8) see people getting there heads lopped off and bowels removed with blood spurting all over the place is "Okay" while a single female breast being shown on screen is "a filthy disgrace against God" - I feel the opposite - I abhor the violence and Gore, but feel that the nude human form should be seen as the artwork of God (or at least as unharmful when compared to the violence.)

There's never been a kid that was hurt playing nude, but a lot of kids die when they find a gun and play games with it.

Kids aren't affected by nudity unless they've been taught that it's bad, but they get really screwed up by violence.

I knew of one 5 year old that had nightmares every night because he thought all the bad guys on TV were going to get him. He ended up committing suicide by hanging at age 9.

I have never seen a child wake up from a nightmare that came from seeing some gentle nudity. On the other hand, we enculturate our children to violence and gore as "the way of the world" and violence as the first solution to every problem. The news does it too. "If it bleeds, it leads," is their motto.

First person shooter games follow right along with slow motion splotches of blood. The movies look like video games - witness The 300! Children come out of there with one more convincing scenario that blood and killing is heroic.

I am not a wimp. I have a Bronze Star, 2 Army Commendation Ribbons, 5 Air Medals, Distinquished Service Award... etc. I was in the Chemical Corp in Viet Nam. Mixed and dropped napalm on crops and people. Learned to fight with sticks and with live steel swords. First class of men's Model Mugging, did the advanced too. I have a 9mm Taurus and a shotgun. Know how to use both. I was tortured in the Army. Those enough credentials?

I still say it is f'd up to teach kids that you should reach for a gun to shoot people. I say it is time we get our soldiers home and treat their illnesses.

Time to teach peace here at home.

Gore is more offensive. I would block as much as I could till early teens. Nudity does not bother me so much. The worst thing a 12 year old boy is going to do after seeing a nude woman is masturbate.

Gore/violence is more offensive because it promotes children to go and hurt someone. Children will eventually find out that their bodies will go through changes in adolescence so nudity is okay.

Gore and Violence. The body is a natural thing, I don't think they should be watching graphic sex or anything but a naked person is not going to affect how you sleep at night or introduce violent behaviors. As it is they see enough of that out of the movies. ♥

Some stuff shown on the screen might be too much for children. Children perceive things differently than we do and might misinterpret what they see. They might also overreact to what they see and reennact what theyre viewing in real life and hurt someone or themselves.

Both. Let's add foul and crude language to that as well. Why? Because I want my kids, all kids to see that you can communicate and entertain without violating decency standards. It is possible. It is good to see that some movie makers are recognizing that.
God's standards for our lives do carry into our entertainment lives too.

Both in the extreme way they are presented these days are harmful to our kids/society.
