Dear Vasko. All the ancient Macedonian names are pure Greek. You can see it yourself!
The authentic-Macedonian names as they were exactly written by the ancient (Greek)Macedonians themselves are : "Heraclea Lyncestis" (the Lihnida, Linkestida, Iraklija, Heraklija are all from the above)
Heraclea ( Iraklija or Heraklija) is of course Greek and it means the city of Hercules! The town was named in honor of the mythological Greek hero Heracles who was considered the ancestor of the Greek royal house of authentic-Macedonia! The epithet Lyncestis(lihnida and linkestida) is pure Greek meaning "the Land of the Lynx". (From the Greek "Lynx" "Λύγξ") The name of the lake in that area was then called lake “Lychnitis”.(Greek of course meaning “lake of the Lynx”)
As for “Stobi”, Stobi was an ancient town of Paionia (not original (Greek)Macedonian, It was conquered later.)
“Skupi” was build as a military outpost by the (Greek)Macedonians and it was called “Skópia” (in Greek “Σκοπιά”) meaning “Watchtower”. It was build to control the Illyrian lands of the north. (It was not originally Greek(Macedonian) it was conquered later).
Scupi is the Roman form of the greek original. Today it is called in Slavic “Skopje”.
“Uskana” is pure Illyrian and it was one of the Illyrian cities! As for the original name of Struga which was “Enhalion” which is also ancient Greek(Macedonian) meaning "in to the eels" or “among eels”. (From the Greek word “Χέλιον” meaning “ell”). (Even your site mentions it!!)
As you can see all the ancient names of your land either they are pure Greek or Illyrian. That gives you an idea of who use to live there!
