I believe all women should have control over their own reproduction - it doesn't mean that I am pro-abortion - I am a man who thinks a woman should control her own body and the choices she makes. It should not be so political - it should be a personal decision between a woman and her Doctor.

Look at it this way: if people were routinely killing their children minutes after they were born, that would be a crime and no one would question that it should be stopped. So, when is a child a child? If a child becomes a child in the womb, no one has the right to kill that child.

As for it being the woman's body, with the exception of rape or incest, she already made her choice when she engaged in sexual behavior. As a society we have separated sex from reproduction which has led us to an unhealthy place. No form of birth control is a hundred percent. Each partner must take responsibility that each sex act may lead to the creation of another human being. If you aren't ready for that possiblity, you shouldn't engage in sex. We have strayed from reality and we are paying the price for it.

Because it is protecting the innocent. I believe that a woman has control over her body. She can have sex, decline sex, or use birth control. I support her right to chose all of those things, I do not support her right to murder. If she gets pregnant woman should have an abortion within the first three months when the baby wont feel it. After that she made her choice. I'm sick of this "It's her body crap" if she wants to be responsible, there are many decisions she can make ahead of time to prevent becoming pregnant. If those steps fail she can get an abortion before waiting till the thing is a full grown baby waiting to be born.

Think men should have a right to kill their baby's within the first 2 days of life? Then why should woman have that right a day or two sooner and call it "her body" when it is in fact a new persons body that she and a man created.

I agree with you. I'm reluctantly pro-choice. My question is when a man and woman conceive why does the woman get to determine whether the baby is carried to full term or is aborted. The man has no choice. I know it's her body and she has to go through the pregnancy and all that. But if he has to financially support half of the child's needs shouldn't he have at least some say in whether he wants to have the child?

I agree with you!

And it's not just reproduction they want to control. They seek to create a flock of homogenous SHEEP that they can lead without question into whatever pursuits bring them the most power.

Edit:Since the focus here is so much on abortion, I thought I would add:
Abortion is tragic.
The circumstances that create a perceived need for abortion are tragic.

Ideally, we would live in world where abortion was unnecessary because there would be no sex without consent, and the youth would be protected from unplanned pregnancy by being adequately chaperoned at all times.

Until we achieve that ideal, I support the legal right to an abortion for those who would otherwise resort to back alleys or self-induced abortions. I do NOT condone abortion as a substitute for birth control.

A variety of safe, effective and affordable birth control methods should be available to all people who are physically capable of reproduction.
Distribution of BC to minors remains a topic of debate, suitable for a separate discussion.

I think the reason is a combination of preserving the status quo (with some subtle underlying sexism at play) and a genuine desire to preserve what they think is the life of a child.

Me, I'm pro-choice but somewhat sympathetic to pro-Life. I'm for abortion choice (mainly because outlawing it would only increase illegal and unsafe abortions) but hope things don't get to the point where having an abortion is like having your appendix removed. A fetus isn't quite a human being, but it's more than just a bunch of cells. I also don't believe in partial birth abortions, unless the mother's life is at risk

you're preaching to the choir here. I never understand why somebody needs to be pro-life to the point where they want to change the laws. If they don't like abortion, they shouldn't have one, but I can't see what they are gaining by making it unavaililable to other women.
It's not like they offer to adopt or pay for the child.
Pandora, you just disgusted me beyond belief. You called rape a choice? You said that women who PARTICIPATE in rape know that there is a possibility that they will end up pregnant? Tell that to my friend who was raped. You should spend a day at a crisis center for rape victims. I hope you will be able to see how insensitive and out of place your comment was.

Why is this a political issue? MONEY. The government is a socialist governement, bordering communist governement. Since the tax collection base is so large and hits so many sectors, well we as taxpayers have a right to argue over how our tax dollars are being spent.

Once the government stops collecting money for female reproductive issues is when this argument will be over.

Ok, so you dont want to have a baby, right? Well don't have sex. How simple can that be? Or are we just so "I want to play the game, but never lose" type of people?

Every action has a reaction, and the reaction of sex is to have children. NO ONE is controling a womans right to reproduce, i don't see one law stateing that woman can not buy contracpetives, that they can not buy birth control, and most importantly that they can or can not have sex.

HOWEVER, when a woman does partake in those vices (having sex..protected, unprotected, rape or incest) then she has opened herself up to the chance of having a child. And when sperm and egg meet, congrats, you have a life, and your "choice" to have kids...has pretty much just ended. There are MEDICAL reasons to having abortions, and one can not look away from those, unfortunalty. But, the mothers life is more important the fetus (in a HEALTH point of veiw, not social or ecconomic) And a WOMAN also has the choice to fix herself so that she can not have any children.

So...who is controling a womans ablitiy to reproduce again?

It is not control over women's reproduction that you are referring to, rather it is control as a society over occurrences that are outside societal norms. Murder is generally considered unacceptable. To many, killing a fetus equates to homicide whether accomplished with or without professional involvement.
On the other hand, many demand women be given *extra* choices (at least 5) in dealing with reproduction yet demand men be mandated their role without any choice whatever once pregnancy occurs. They apparently see no inequality in this.
The fact that actions should carry responsibility is what is at issue. It is not forcing women to do anything other than be responsible for their actions.
Is that too much to ask of adult women? I think not.

If you don't want a baby, don't have sex. That's control.

I look at the whole thing this way: I don't care if you have an abortion so long as no harm comes to the baby. Think on that.

And since when is abortion usually "a personal decision between the woman and her doctor"? Typically a woman goes into an abortion clinic and the "doctor" doesn't know her from Eve!
