A dampened pendulum is fairly simple. A simple pendulum does not take into account frictional forces, so it is able to go on forever. The dampened pedulum will eventually come to a halt. There are several varations to a damped pendulum. The one i like is skyscrapers. When the wind blows at the top, the building will sway in a periodic motion. To stop this from happenening, skyscrapers have at the stop a device to make the building from swaying. The way some try and damped the motion is a hydraulic system that pushes a large slab of concrete from one side to the other to counter act the forces of the wind
