first, contact your art agent in your country and ask him if is possible to set you up with an agent in America.
if you never had an agent, then you came to the wrong Country. in the USA art is not considered a real profession,(by most) unless you live in new york city.
my best advice would be to go to art school and get a Masters degree in art. university is where you get the connections.
I went to art school and have seen my former classmates doing art exhibitions after they go for the masters degree. I became a graphic artist instead.
you can also get a book titled The Artists and Graphic Designers Market. it has names and adresses of art galleries and other venues where you could sell your art.
good luck!
you'll need it

Getting people to look at your art while their sitting down for a meal is perfect...because a lot of people wouldn't otherwise take the time to "smell the roses".
Whenever I go to the local Gelato place, I always checkout the new artwork he has on display.
It's a win-win. The owner gets free decor and the seller gets free exposure. When someone buys a piece, the artist replaces it...and the Gelato owner gets to change up the environment and keep it lively.
Just a thought. Good luck!

You need to contact a local gallery. Not an agent. Take a couple examples with you to a gallery (covered) and look at the works that are there. Yours might be compatible for that gallery, if not, on to the next. There are galleries in the states that have only African art. I saw one in Long Beach, Ca.Talk to the people in your local area galleries, there may be someone there who has connections and would want to see your work. Then bring them in and uncover them, They might want to display them there. Then you might have an agent looking for you.You need a web site and a digital camera to put your art on a world tour.

I would use the Internet. A tasteful website with high reso pics of your work would at least get you world wide exposure. Then you could contact art galleries and dealers and make inquiries and refer people to your website. You might even make direct sales from your website.
I was interested in printing Gyotaku at one point and did a web search on the subject. I found a bunch of people marketing and selling their own work.
