We've never been to Montreal and want to go this weekend for a quick getaway. Any suggestions? Also, we were thinking of flying into Burlington and driving the rest of the way since flying to Montreal from NYC is really expensive. Is this the best place to fly to or is there somewhere closer? Thank you!!

My favorite romantic B&B is Le Petit Prince...it is a short walk to downtown bars and shops..and about a 2 minute walk to the metro station. The food is DELICIOUS, the service is superb..the innkeepers Robert and Jonathan are excellent hosts, very personable, with great suggestions for places to eat, places to see. Also it is very close to Centre Bell which has lots of sporting events and concerts.

Burlington is a suburb of Toronto ... so you'd have to drive 5.5 hours from the airport to Montreal, which is nuts. You'd be faster skipping the flight and driving straight to Montreal ... or flying to Montreal. Ottawa is 2 hours from Montreal by car, and a much prettier drive in the Laurentian (Laurentide) mountains.

The downtown area of Montreal (rue st. Catherine) is most popular, but I recommend the area around rue St. Urbain ... Outremont ... the old Jewish neighbourhood. It's got a lot more character ... old shops etc. If you have a chance, read a Mordechi Richler (sp?) book beforehand! Sorry, don't know any actual B&B's.

Assuming you mean Burlington VERMONT (duh), yes that's the closest American airport to Montreal. BUT check it out carefully, I would think if you had to rent a car there (is that what you meant?) the total cost would be more than flying from NYC and taking the metro in Montreal. If you mean a bus from Burlington, that's probably cheaper.

B&Bs I don't really know, my parents live there so I stay with them.

DUDE!!!! I have a great place in Montreal ( I used to go to school up there and stay in Montreal on the weekends to go exploring)
Stay at Chez Roger Bontemps... Trust me!!!! Super cheap..super chic... it's so fun let me know how it goes!
You could take a train into Montreal too out of NYC..but it takes 11 hours or so...but it's fun and you go by Champlain
