Of course they'll be one, but do you find it hard to seek advice from them as our worlds are so different from each other. Being a 30-something and they being a 75+ something - it is hard to relate on many important matters of today. Just wondering if others have ran into the same problems.

I would say that an almost 100 year gap would cause a major communication problem between any two groups of people.

I am 40, and my grandparents lived through the depression...I still felt very connected to them.

I would say that the bridge can be gapped by elderly people who think progressively, and by younger people who can truly appreciate and understand how quickly things have changed in the past 100 years.

The same core problems existed back then as they do today. Love, work, family, children, personality conflicts, and money. (the depression was a life lesson in money problems). Those problems are universal, that transcend time and nationality. The beauty of interacting with our elders can be educating and reassuring.....that even though technology brings about new conveniences, some issues stay the same.

Not getting along with an elderly person isn't always because they are older. They could have some emotional issues that cause the problem. Not to insult, but could it possibly the way you view things that causes the conflict?

I have an elderly aunt who is absolutely crazy, and I get so upset with her, but elderly people are not all like that. There is sooooo much love and learning to exchange.

These people have lived their entire lives....they have learned through time what is truly important in life. (something that you and I have not lived long enough to learn yet). Listen to them intently and love them unconditionally.

Yes, language is different, as are views and outlooks. The greatest thing older generations have to offer are experience, wisdom, insight, a lifetime of decisions (good and bad).......but you can only gain access to that by ....now here's the tricky part........listening, not talking. Listen and hear what they have to say, and you will understand the different vocabulary, and viewpoints, you can span that generation gap.

yes... there is a huge generation gap...

the WWII's actually had some morals, some fiber to their being... they were tough, and didn't need to be pandered to..

the worked hard, and didn't try to take advantage of people to get ahead in the world.

They faced the depression, both world wars... and thousands of troubles that we will never know..

And we have totally destroyed the legacy that they left us.

I believe that the older generation can give us a lot of ideas about eras, they lived, they overcame and some of them are still here
