There are lot of people out here that watch women's bball and a lot of girls that follow the game, aspiring to get scholarships and make something of themselves. Why isn't this sport to be respected as much as the men's game? Every year, the games become more prominent on the t.v. listings and yet many people still say that it isn't valid. Why is that?

I respect the women who play and follow the game, however I don't watch it because it isn't my thing. I am the alley-oop, dunk type person and that's what I like to watch. However I have cathced a few games here and there, so to say that the WNBA isn't valid, obviously means they don't know much, they work hard, they play hard. That's what makes a player great and I think these women have great ability. But unfortunatly in this world there will always be a double standerd.

Wow... I think that people confuse respect for the athletes and the entertainment level. Personally, I don't think that women's bball is played at a very high level, and I really find it painful to watch. However, I don't take anything away from the athletes or their hard work.

Just because I respect an athlete or a sport (or in this case, a sub-set of a sport), doesn't mean that I have to watch it or pretend that it is as important (on a larger scale, not a personal level) as football, baseball, etc. I am sure that fencing is a difficult sport, but you won't see me in line to buy tickets.

I don't know if it is still happening, but the NBA used to pay to have the WNBA put on television... a lot like when the PGA pays CBS to run the seniors tour. People don't want to watch, but the parent organization wants to push the sport.

I love women's basketball. I don't even watch the men's college basketball season because I would rather watch women's basketball any day over men's b-ball. I have the highest respect for women athletes, being one, it is important that people stop being sexist and chauvinistic and realize that women have the right for the same respect and enthusiasm for what they are doing. People won't know what hit them when the women come out to be HUGE stars because nobody pays any attention to them. To most of the people that posted to this question, you obviously don't take the time to watch any women's b-ball, and don't even know that Candace Parker was the fourth woman to dunk and the first to do it twice in the NCAA tournament last year. Or that there is an article on the Duke Lady Blue Devils in the Mon. 19 Sports Illustrated issue or maybe they wouldn't know that Duke went 28 games with out losing and are now 31-1 in the NCAA tournament. So if you don't mind I have to go watch some women's basketball that happens to be televised.

In Connecticut, its huge, but let's face it, CT fans have been spoiled by having tons of great teams and players over the past 15 years.

It's hard to imagine that it would have taken hold as much as it has if the Huskies were 12-17 every year.

So while women's hoops thrives in certain markets, in most areas it will never compete with men's in popularity.

Still, women's basketball does get much more overall attention (newspaper coverage, games on ESPN etc.) than almost all other NCAA sports (men's baseball, hockey, track and field etc.). it just isn't nearly at the level of the media interest in men's hoops.

People really should realize how much women have accomplished in basketball. Sure they play with a smaller ball, but there is a lot more opportunities being a woman b-ball player than being a man on a team.

Women's basketball isn't boring. I watch it with my family every year. I'm with you in believing women's basketball should get more credit. Go Girls!

Because it's boring. If you are hearing this from a GIRL then it must be true. Men's games are exciting and there are players that everyone likes to follow. You see, if you say someone from Ohio's Women's Teram did well last night, the person you are talking to will be like, "who?"

Because womens ball isnt as fun to watch. for example men slam dunk which is cooler to watch then a boring lay up. Men do more risky things and dribble. women never take people 1 on 1.

It will never catch the mens game. The mens game is more up tempo and atheletic then the woman's game.
