What vehicle, supplies, etc.

4 wheel drive,
Mosquito repellent (the best one I ever found is made in Canada and I can't find it here in the USA.)
A camera.

LOTS OF TIME!! Don't make it a race just so you can say "We've done it."

Alaska ferries run from Bellingham Washington. or you can up from BC..
