My husband was telling me that he heard on the radio that a lady went into the ER w/ stomach pains, only to find out she was in labor and didn't even know she was pregnant.

I just have a hard time comprehending this!!!

Do you think it has to do with how in (or out) of sync you are with your own body?

Did you know you were pregnant before you got the positive test???

[7 more days until I can test]

With my pregnancy with my son, I was beyond exhausted, I just wanted to sleep ALL the time. That's the only reason I took the test. Other than the sleepiness, I didn't feel pregnant (yet).

... But it was unexpected too so I wasn't "waiting" for it.

Alison,
You sound like me! I was never sure I even wanted kids.
And then...Surprise, your pregnant!
9 months later I realized what my purpose in life was and why I was placed here on earth. : )

I myself find that being unaware of a pregnancy untill labor is very farfetched. Unless the person is severly obese and has alot of health problems such as bodily aches and pains, strange eating habits and moodiness due to their condition, I do not see how this scenario is possible.

I do think a person can know they are pregnant before confirmation from a test or doctor. When I realized I was pregnant, it was two weeks before the doctor determined it was so. It was mostly by intuition and a little water weight =-)
I had a few dreams as well..... Dreams of my belly being round, dreams of walking with a little girl, and a few nightmares too. Every one is different though. I think a person may have their ideas about pregnancy, but it is best to check with a doctor or a few home tests before you make any affirmations.

Best of luck

Since I had always had a regular cycle I knew I was probably pregnant.
Most the time during a pregnancy you don't feel pregnant , kicking of the baby can be passed off as muscle spasms, because thats kinda what it feels like and maybe she didn't have morning sickness. I haven't felt pregnant 99% of my pregnancy or sick so my only real signs are no period and exhaustion. I guess if your out of touch with your body too.

I am 26 weeks

yeah if a woman is overweight it could also be a factor.

I think any woman that has NO IDEA she's pregnant until a baby pops out must have had a lobotomy or something. Just how fat do you have to be to not notice a 7 pound baby in your belly? And the kicking? Did she not feel that?

Anywho, I really like the Early Response tests. You can use them 5 days before your period is supposed to arrive! They work great and Consumber Reports rated them THE most senstive at detecting hCG in urine. They have been as accurate as blood tests for me.

Best of luck to you my dear, hope your test is positive!

Yeah.. I knew I was pregnant before a positive. I took a home pregnancy test and it came up negative and than a few weeks later I went to the clinic and sure enough.. I was pregnant.. 5 and half weeks along. So I was about 3 weeks when I knew I was pregnant! Now Im 14 weeks along!!

Yes I did but I was tracking my temps and kinda felt logically that I was preg ''not just high hopes'' I had negative urine and still refrained from getting drunk on my birthday thank god cuz I'm now 25 weeks in with my 2nd son!! I wouldv'e felt bad after trying so hard to conceive then getting drunk while pregnant thae women who do not realize pregnancy are often quite overweight or have a major denial issue the mind is a powerful thing a lot of these women tend to be very young or later in life past recommended child bearing years !!

My goodness, YES!

I was about 3 weeks along when I realized I must be pregnant.

Although, I did notice a bit of breast sensitivity. It was really more of an odd feeling of something "different", and mostly just an instinctive thing, I guess.

It wasn't like we were trying either. We'd been married 16 years and using BC successfully, until SURPRISE!! Then a couple of years later another SURPRISE!!

The biggest surprise was how welcome they both were :D

We thought we were happy "child-free" types, but boy we were so wrong. If timing had been a choice, I'd have done it when I was in my 30's. But, we've never been so happy or so tired, LOL!

Best of luck with your test!

I knew I was pregnant just because I know when I ovulate.
That lady you spoke about must really be a big chick ( no ofense to anyone) but there is no way a small petiete woman wouldn't know she went 9 months with a child. Personally I think it isn't even true.

You can get a blood test and find out sooner by the way. It's really good to find out early on so you can torture yourself with more dr. visits where they tell you all is fine and come back next month...just kidding. It is good to find out early on incase there are problems that can be treated early on. Good luck.

I definitly knew that I was pregnant before I tested each and every time. My body was so out of wack. Even the first time I was pregnant my mind kept telling me something was different. I do find it hard to fathom that somenone went 9 months w/o knowing. But I have heard of this type of thing happening before!

I have 3 kids.
With 2 of them - I knew I was pregnant even before I took home pregnancy tests. Somehow I just knew with the 2 of them.

I think anyone who claims not to know they were pregnant until they had the baby is flat out lying!!!! There are sooooo many symptoms of being pregnant, I find it impossible that any woman goes through 40 weeks of those symptoms and not know it!

I knew with my second child the day I sat down to a steak dinner and couldn't eat a bite. (My first pregnancy, I had an aversion to steak). Other than that, I had no noticable symptoms...
