Porsche.

The cars are much more reliable, much more affordable, just as fast (or faster, especially for the price), the technology is more impressive, and the racing history is far more interesting and extensive.

For people that dont think Porsches can compete with ferraris in terms of performance: The current model 430 with the F1 shifter was beaten by these less expensive porsches on the nurburgring: The old model GT3, Old model GT3 RS, Old model GT2, New model GT3, New model GT3 RS, and the new model turbo. It was one second ahead of the old model turbo. The porsche Carrera GT still has the N-ring record for production street cars. The 430 is also more powerful than all of the cars it was beaten by, making its defeat even more impressive for the porsches. And all are also daily drivable.

and about the racing history: one person gave a rough guesstimate of it, but neglected many other notables from porsche. They ended the golden age of racing with the 917/30 by making a car too fast. They also have been racing just as long, if not longer than ferrari. The Auto Union D-type was a porsche designed car. And dont forget the Dakar wins for the 959. Porsche has won in all forms of racing, while ferrari tends to only succeed in f1. Porsche is completely untouchable in things like Le Mans.

and dont forget that Dr. Porsche was the head of Mercedes for a while (in the early 1900s), designed the VW bug, and numerous other important vehicles (like some luftwaffe bombers, and the german WW2 tanks). Porsche AG may be a newer company, but they predate ferrari in many of their other important vehicles.

truthfully Ferrari. in spite of the undeniable fact that Porsches have the superb German engineering, the Ferrari is basically honestly acceptable, and obviously maximum of the time speedier than the Porsche. Plus, i actually don't like Porsche's circle light fixtures, they don't look agressive in any respect, I a useless ringer for the back of Porsches. Now study that to the recent Ferrari 458 Italia, eye-catching from each attitude!!!

Depends on just what you are comparing, and what criteria you want to use to determine "best."

As a company, Porsche is an wholly controlled by the Porsche family, while Ferrari is owned by Fiat. Both companies are able to sell pretty much all that they make, though Porsche produces a wider variety of vehicles and in much greater number. Porsche stock has generally moved up, and their financial footing is very sound. Ferrari is the crown jewel of the Fiat empire, but that empire has had it's struggles in recent years. Based on current standing and value, Porsche would seem to be the winner if you are talking about companies.

Though if you extend that to talking about history and what they've accomplished? Both companies have storied histories with racing. Ferrari is an older company, and has had great success in both Formula 1 and sports car racing. Porsche has had more success in sports car racing than anyone else, though their only try at F1 could be considered a draw at best (though they do get a nice honorable mention for the TAG engines many years after that). Looking at many of the records, Porsche is beyond impressive... and no company has had as many race organizers implement rules season after season aimed at slowing them down as the German marque has (and they were successful when running head to head against Ferrari in the 1970s with both sides going for broke in Sports Car racing). Yet, based on the longer history, and recent success in F1, Ferrari probably gets a slight edge if you are looking at racing history.

If you are talking about the cars they produce? Overall, both companies have approached cars with many similar objectives (though through the 1970s-1990s, Ferrari moved much ahead when Porsche was only willing to increase power if it could also improve relative milage and emissions). Both cars feature exceptional engineering and performance (similar levels at similar price points). Porsche cars will generally be better suited for day to day use though, but the Ferrari will carry more cache as they are made in lower numbers and the entry level comes at a higher price point making it a much rarer car. Best here depends entirely on what you think is better.

If we talk about exoticness and feel, then it's Ferrari. Ferrari cars are made with more attention to details, more exotic material selection, and more attractive in design. I also think the enigne sounds more intimidating than the Porsche. The Porsche is more durable (911 models are tested in places with extreme weather condition like the dessert and mild winter storm), reliable (Parts and components are less exotic than Ferrari, but they are less complex.), practical (Big luggage space), easy to drive (Better all around visibility than the Ferrari), economy (911 have better fuel consumption than Ferrari due to their smaller engines), more usable (The 911 Carrera and 911 Turbo have relatively tall ground clearance to pass the speed bumps without worries, also, 911 is a lot smaller in size compared to many other supercars, making it beneficial in tight places and eventually makes parking easier, very useful if you live in places with tight space like Paris,Bangkok,Hong Kong.), less flashy (Less attractive can be a good thing, you get more privacy, you get less trouble.), also the fact that 911 has uniqueness that other cars don't have like its unusual engine that is located behind the rear wheel instead of in the 'middle-rear'. This weird engine layout compromise the handling, but the 911 loyalist want it that way.It makes the car feel unique around the corners. I've driven a 996 generation of the 911 Carrera and it does handle uniquely to its own, so I guess another plus point is the unique handling. I also find it fascinating how a car with the engine located behind the rear wheel could handle so well, I guess that's another appreciation to the car's capability.

Porsche is for go, the Ferrari is for show. As for the people who prefer a Mustang, well you just don't know any better.
