Can anyone tell which motorcycle company sells the most bikes in the US?

I recently read that Harley Davidson finally beat Honda. All I could find on the internet was for 2005 and Honda was only a few percent ahead of HD.

According to the History Channel's Modern Marvels, Honda is the World leader in Motorcycle Sales. In The United States it is Harley Davidson ever since the fall of the Indian Motorcycle Company. I do believe this is talking about street legal bikes. When you do add in all the dirtbikes, scooters, etc. Honda is the top seller in the United States.

I recall reading an article a few years back. What it said was that technically Honda was the sales leader in the U.S. with H-D coming in second. But those totals were for ALL motorcycles sold. Harley was selling more road bikes than Honda, but Honda was selling more motorcycles with off road and road bikes combined. I don't know if it's any different today.

I would guess that it is Harley-Davidson for high-end product. Some Ultras are going for over $33,000.00. The also seem to be a lot of young boys on the rice rockets, probably as a starter bike until they realize that rice rockets run a distant second to H-D. Go to any beach parking lot in the summertime,and every 17 year old rider is on a rocket. The older Harley crowd shows up, and guess who draws all of the attention. Harley is not just two wheeled transportation... it's an entire lifestyle.
