Is it possible that this is the last book in the series? I certainly hope not! It has been a long series, but this book leaves too many questions unanswered. Why did Polly leave? Is Qwilleran already developing another love interest? Was the young lady who died by the bee sting really murdered because her emergency kit was taken? Koko seems to think she was murdered? Will Qwilleran rebuild the barn? The stone foundation and walls should still be good, and he certainly can afford it. All in all, I was very disappointed in this book!

I too was very disappointed in the most recent book. I kind of hope it was written by a ghostwriter, because it was just awful. Mrs. Braun up until about the last three in the series was writing a great series with great characters, storyline and mysteries, but I think she is losing her touch. I can accept that considering she has been writing this series since 1986. I just can't believe she would just destroy two very important parts of Qwill's life, Polly and the barn. And in the previous book she killed two major characters and then didn't even have a funeral for them. Qwill basically went "Oh well" and that was it. That is not how things were handled before. I have a feeling this may be the last book in the series and if so, I kind of wish she had ended it a book or two earlier. If this is the last book, I am going to try and forget I ever read it so I can have good memories of Pickax and Koko and Qwill.

I haven't read this entry in the series because I've heard how disappointing it is. I had heard rumors that the series was being ghost-written but I think that theory has been dropped since if they were this wouldn't have been such a mess of a book.

I don't know if this is the last, but considering that LJB is at least 93 (in an interview in the Detroit Free Press in 2005, her age was given as 92; she could be 94 by now, depending on her exact birthday) there won't be many more unless someone else writes them.

She actually wrote the first three books (the best, I think) in the 1960s. She then dropped the series and went on with her life until about '86 or so, when she wrote a new book which proved such a hit that more books followed and the first three were reprinted.

I know this doesn't answer your questions but it may explain some things.
