You can check the BIOS settings for the motherboard to see if the ports are active. When you first boot the system it should mention Press F1 (or ESC, or DEL, or whatever) to get into the BIOS.

The only option to check in there is whether the USB ports are configurable and if they are active. In some cases, you may have USB ports on the front and back of your machine, and can only have one set or the other active.

Since you say that the USB port recognizes when something is plugged in there, it just does not let you use it, are you sure that the ports are USB 2.0 standard, or perhaps still only USB 1.0 ? If they are the older and slower standard, perhaps your device is not recognized because it cannot work on the slower speed?

I had a similar problem when I first hooked up my USB devices on my Dell Optiplex. I was able to download a firmware upgrade for the USB ports to get them working at the higher level.

keep taping either the delete key, escape, F2, F5,F8,F10,or F12 while booting up.

only one will work but hitting multiple keys insures you wont reboot your computer a dozen times before you get into the bios.

delete and F2 are the most common, but some manufacturers just have to be different.

I with everyone just used the same thing but they don't.

If your computer beeps when it turns on hit keys After the beep. FYI the beep is just saying everythings AOK.

we are able to not truly answer this until eventually we've a lot more beneficial information. you may enter bios by ability of hitting oftentimes both the F1 og DEL key on the first exhibit on startup (submit). you may examine your putting there, yet until eventually you know what the settings should be for sure that dosn't help a lot. in case you do no longer know a thanks to artwork those settings then i guidance you basically leave them be on default settings. maximum BIOS those days will immediately bump into maximum settings and do not favor guide adjustment until eventually you want to overclock. in case you want to study more beneficial I recommend you google "bios training guide" and start up reading -Stigma
