I'm going to be buying a blackberry for work. However I don't know which one I should buy. It will be mainly used for e-mail while I'm out of the office. I have Sprint as my carrier and thought Blackberry would be the best route instead of the Treo. Can anyone tell me which model number would be the wisest choice? Something that hopefully won't be outdated in 6 months. Thanks!

Hey! I work for sprint together with nextel, and I deal with these phones all day, specifically the blackberry and treo! With blackberry I would suggest the 8703e because of the EVDO technology, and the fact that it will stay current for ATLEAST a year. The wide range of technology supported by the blackberry system is also a good factor to consider.

My personal favorite is the Treo 700wx, only because it has a good version of Windows Mobile 5.2, assuming you have a windows based PC, this will be easier to sync (especially through bluetooth 2.0 technology!) Of course it runs EVDO technology also!

But if you are set on blackberry, definitely go with the 8703e!

Currently, your choices are: 7130e and 8703e.

The 7130e is less wide (more bar phone-like), but uses a SureType keyboard. SureType has two letters on each key (which includes keys other than the standard numbers on a phone). So, the words you are trying to type will be predicted according to the combination of keys you typed. You will need to make sure that kind of keyboard will work for you.

The 8703e uses a full QWERTY keyboard for text entry and is more wide; however, the screen orientation may suit you better (you'll have to see for yourself).

Both of them run on the Sprint Mobile Broadband (EV-DO) network for high-speed data.

By this Summer (June/July), the 8803e is expected to be released. (similar to the 8800 on at&t/Cingular) It is predicted to have EV-DO rev. a (which gives you higher upload speeds).
