Over the weekend I purchased the 160 gig Western Digital portable hard drive. Im running Win XP pro and when I tried to back up my computer, I got an error saying that only 4 gigs can be backed up and that I would need to adjust my HD in order to back up more.

Whats going on and how do I fix the situation so I can back up my computer?

Do I really want to back up my computer instead of just saving all the information I want to back up?

I would need to know more about the software you are using for the full backup, however, I suspect the 4GB limitation has something to do with a file size limit.... you may be trying to backup the entire PC to a single file.
That won't work.

Personally, I just backup my personal data, video, photo files ...etc.
I feel no need to ghost or backup the entire PC.

In conjunction with creating routine restore point in Windows, this method has never failed me.

The problem is the Max filesize that you can transfer to your HD is 4gb's at a time. So to back up your HD you would have to send it to the external drive in pieces (Exp. 3 gigs at a time)
