After installing my hp scanner (scanjet 3970) - and correctly following all of the steps - I am getting the error message "an unexpected internal error has occurred" when I try to scan.

My PC has recently been reformatted due to hard drive issues, and I have been able to successfully install other software but I can not get my scanner to work. Any thoughts from the geeks out there? :)

Ok,

First of all i hope that you ment geek in a positive way im sure that you would not like me calling you a geek at what you are good at however i live in london so we might be thinking somthink diffren.

2nd- Did you plug the scanner in before you installed the softwere? If you did that might be what is wrongf in which case you should restrore your computer and then have another go?

Hope this helps !

Some times its the connection, I presume you are using a USB cable to connect, try to disconnect restart your computer and reconnect after everything restarts... then press the scan button on the scanner... This worked for me before (although not the same scanner)...

There is a .exe file associated to the scanners working or not working... I think there is something wrong with that exe file... you can also try to stop the exe file from the task manager and press the scan button on the scanner to see if that makes any difference.... Do this at your own risk... :)

All the best...

I definitely have that similar hp scanner and performance had a difficulty with the scanner, even if the printer doesn't artwork in any respect. I fixed my scanner with assistance from going to the information superhighway web site and downloading the needed drivers. be careful even if, because i think of their website has viruses. except that, flow on your community community and click on scanners/digital cameras icon and attempt to set it up from there. be particular you reboot the workstation and the device. If that doesn't artwork, i'm questioning that we've offered ourselves somewhat of junk.

Un-install the software. shut down ur pc and properly check the connections made to PC and power of the scanner. Then install the software again. this might help. else ur usb/parallel ports might be out of order. i dont see any OS issue because you said its installed recently.
